WEST CHESTER, PA — The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) has recently granted the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) a sum of $7,500 to be used for educational purposes.
The mission of RRP is to facilitate the placement of Thoroughbred ex-racehorses in second careers. This is achieved by increasing demand for them in the equestrian marketplace and educating equestrians to provide the training that secures their future. RRP is dedicated to educating the public, particularly equestrians and equine enthusiasts, about the potential and versatility of off-track Thoroughbreds as riding and competition horses.
The popular Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium are among the key initiatives through which RRP fulfills its mission.
In 2018, TERF supported RRP’s expanded 4-day model of the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium with a $20,000 grant. This grant also increased RRP’s presence at equine events throughout the U.S. and helped create the popular “Ask a Trainer Anything” feature.
TERF continued its support in 2019 with a $5,000 grant directed to the Makeover. This pattern of support was maintained in 2020, 2021, and 2022 with additional $5,000 grants.
TERF’s grants reflect the values set forth by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis. The current board, co-chaired by Kathleen Anderson DVM and James Orsini DVM, is committed to supporting and promoting equine education. They achieve this by supporting organizations that educate the public on the proper care of horses.
